| basics. |
| • Name: Severus Tobias Snape 'Severus' meaning: Obvious connotations of severity and strictness. Possible allusion to the Roman Emperor, Lucius Septimius Severus, who reconstructed Hadrian’s wall and defeated Clodinus Albinus and Pescennius Niger. There are also several saints with the name 'Severus.' 'Tobias' meaning: Hebrew, "God is good". 'Snape' meaning: JKR says "Snape is an English village",probably the one in North Yorkshire near Hadrian’s (aka Severus’)Wall. This village also has a Snape Castle. There is another Snape Village that is near Saxmundham, northeast of Ipswich near the Alde River. snape (v.) - 'to be hard upon, rebuke, snub,' c.1300, from Old Norse sneypa 'to outrage, dishonor, disgrace.' -From the HP Lexicon • Birthdate: 9 January 1960 • Citizenship: England • Current residence: A cottage near Carmelford, Cornwall. • Blood status: Half-Blood: mother, full blood witch; father, Muggle. • Wand Type: Olivander - 12.5", Ebony, Dragon heartstring. |
| physical. |
![]() • Height/weight: 5'8 1/2"/150 lbs; Canon notes Snape as shorter than Sirius Black. Snape is of average height, (Average height for UK Males is between 5’8” – 5’9”), and of a lean build. He has filled out some from the time he was a teenager, but his robes still look to large for him most of the time. • Hair/eyes: Rowling describes Snape as having a stringy, pallid look about him as well as lank, greasy hair. This hair is a dark colour. While the greasiness could be indicative of poor hygiene in Severus' case his hair is a fine texture that becomes oily at the roots if not washed daily. Combine this with his obsession with potion making, and you end up with a greasy appearance for his hair the majority of the time. Severus has dark eyes. • Manner of speech: Although he hasn’t had the training in society and culture that most Purebloods have had, Severus has read widely. He has taught himself Latin and an early form of Welsh – he’s learned both languages to help him further with studies in potions and the Dark Arts. As Severus sees culture as essential to his promotion, and he works very hard to maintain that appearance when around other Death Eaters. He has observed those he considers to be the best educated of this group and although the reflection is not perfect, he certainly tries. At not quite twenty, however, he has not perfected his ability to completely mask his feelings and emotions. When angry or emotional, the accent will slip and his working class upbringing is readily apparent both in his tone and his choice of words. • Manner of dress: Severus is not extremely concerned with clothing. Now that he can purchase his own robes, he buys simple dark ones. He finds these are least likely to show mistakes made when making potions. His clothing is not fashionable, well cut, or otherwise remarkable. It is serviceable and when he wants to, he can present himself decently although he will win no nominations for best dressed. • Physical description: As mentioned above, Severus Snape is of average height, with a lean build. His skin is pale and his hair and eyes extremely dark. Over the past year he has gained some confidence so that his posture is a bit straighter and less twitchy than it was during his time at Hogwarts. However, he still often slumps his shoulders, a habit gained when he increased in height nearly a full year before his peers. He has a large nose, and is not particularly attractive. His long hair, usually a bit greasy, very fine and without much body, does nothing to improve his appearances. • First impression: Is he a vampire...? A stranger to Severus Snape would notice first his dark hair and pale skin. Someone with an active imagination might think of him as a vampire. Less imaginative individuals would simply see someone that they might wish to avoid. Severus typically does not smile or make himself inviting in anyway. As a result, he comes across as dark and broody. As he is not extraordinarily attractive or tall, he can blend into a crowd if he wishes to do so, portraying the image of someone you just won’t notice. For someone first meeting Severus in a conversation, they would find him silent and possibly even sullen. However, if Severus did speak, they would soon discover that he has a quick mind and a dry sense of humour. When in situations that require companionable friendship or conversation Severus defaults to dry commentary, humourous or otherwise. This is his default to cover the awkwardness he typically feels in these situations. Severus excels in conversations of strategy or academia – particularly in areas of potions or the Dark Arts – and someone having a conversation with him on these topics would likely not notice any awkward moments in conversation. |
| personal. |
• General personality: Severus is a classic INTJ. He is concerned with a practical usage of details, knowledge, and information. He constantly pushes himself to learn more and to become better at what he does. He also has a very small tolerance level for ignorance or blatant stupidity, particularly when it shows itself in the form of arrogance or carelessness. Severus is introverted and occasionally awkward around others. Part of this comes from his upbringing, wherein his parents neither taught nor demonstrated good relationship skills, while part of it is inherent personality. Severus prefers the quiet and complexities of his books and studies to the noise of large gatherings and the complexities of other human beings. Because of his childhood, a large portion of it spent on the streets, Severus has learned to be an excellent observer of the circumstances around him. At a very early age, he had access to his mother’s magical texts and taught himself how to do hexes and charms to keep safe. Because of the limitations of using magic as an underage Wizard, Severus learned how to make himself scarce and how to fit into a crowd, and is deceptively strong in the sense that he knows where to place a punch to debilitate a much stronger individual. Severus is more emotional than he would like others to believe. While he was taught to see emotion as a weakness, he does feel and feel very deeply, and it is difficult for him to conceal these emotions, thus his desire to learn and perfect Occlumency. • Strengths and weaknesses: Strengths: Determination, pragmatism, logical thinking, and attention to detail Weaknesses: Cruelty, cynicism, single minded obsessing, anti-social behaviour Severus’ best qualities are his logical thinking and his ability to look at the small details and subtleties to pull together an accurate picture. He is a perfectionist when it comes to knowledge and academia. It is his desire to be the best in the areas of study that he must take. Severus’ worst flaws typically involve human relationships. Despite his ability to be highly observant of people and circumstances around him, he has no relationship skills. At times he comes across as a loner, at other times because of his deep seated mistrust of people first gained from his Father’s violent behavior and later deepened by a childhood of constant watching over his shoulder, he simply comes across cruel or cynical. Severus feels deeply, but struggles to express those emotions, even in the rare circumstance that he should trust someone enough to share those emotions with them. When he becomes frustrated, he often loses his temper. He is beginning to realize that he must learn to control this temper within the Death Eater circles if he is to move up in the Dark Lord’s estimation. Severus' keen ability to process information and strategize to come to a logical conclusion gives him excellent potential for leadership but he lacks the diplomacy to be truly successful in this area. • Mental health: Briefly, Severus is mostly sane. If he were to be given a psychoanalysis, more than likely he would test high in Paranoid Personality Disorder and Avoidant Personality Disorder. Severus has a sharp mind, but is insecure in his relationships with others. This can lead him to be paranoid that others don't trust him and do not appreciate him. Like most with Paranoid Personality Disorder, Severus can hold a grudge indefinitely and is extremely unwilling to forgive insults or perceived insults. Severus also has many of the characteristics of an individual with Avoidant Personality Disorder including social anxiety and feelings of inadequacy. |

| • Relatives: Mother: Eileen Prince, Fullblood (Two generations from Pure), b. 2 March 1927, d. 13 August 1979 Father: Tobias Snape, Muggle, b. 27 July 1928, d. 18 December 1978 Maternal Grandparents: Augustus & Victoria Prince, no contact Paternal Grandparents: Nelson & Jane Snape; Nelson d. 16 February 1972, Jane d. 30 April 1977 Snape Family Tree • Relationship with family: Augustus & Victoria Prince: Severus has had no contact with his maternal grandparents. He believes they are still alive, but an owl he sent to them after his NEWTs was returned to him unopened. Augustus and Victoria disowned their daughter Eileen for her marriage to the Muggle Snape, and are apparently unwilling to recognise their grandson. Severus hopes that if he can come to them as a leading member of the new Wizarding World government, that perhaps they will acknowledge him as their grandson and a useful member of society. Nelson & Jane Snape: Severus disliked both of his paternal grandparents extremely. He believed they felt, like his father did, that sending him to ‘that boarding school’ was a waste of money and that he should be at home, able to assist his father after returning from school in the afternoons. He disliked his Grandfather, Nelson, far more than he disliked his Grandmother and he was distinctly unbothered when Nelson passed away early in Severus’ life. His grandmother illicits no particular feelings of love or hatred: He sees Jane as the woman who gave birth to his father, whom he despises, and therefore has no particular love for her. Eileen Prince Snape Eileen is the one member of his family that Severus truly loves, although at the same time he is somewhat angry with his mother. Although he will not admit it to himself, he hates that Eileen stayed with Tobias all of his childhood, and put up with the severe injustices that her husband doled out to her. Severus does respect his mother’s ability with potions and with charms, however. He’s learned a great deal about potions and some about the Dark Arts from his mother. And although he does not have his mother’s skill with a wand, he has certainly gained her expertise with potions.Since his Father’s death, Severus has lived with his mother. Recently he has been struck with the change in his mother’s disposition. Although Eileen Snape was beat down years ago, she has become more reserved and less willing to perform magic than she was when Severus was a child. Eileen has no knowledge of Severus being involved with her husband’s murder, although as Severus has not been particularly quiet about the group he is hanging out with and his mother does read the Daily Prophet it is possible that she suspects his involvement with the people who may have murdered Tobias, if not the complete truth. After Tobias' death, Eileen's health begin to disentigrate, and although Severus did everything he could to make certain that her life was comfortable, she finally ended up bed ridden by July 1979. Severus made potions for her and took care of her between his job at the Apothecary and his work for the Death Eaters, but he was unable to give her a reason to live. She passed away in August 1979, and was buried next to her husband with a small ceremony attended by Aberforth Dumbledore, the Potters, and Agnes O'Hare. Tobias Snape Severus’ feelings about his father are quite strong. He has never loved his father, hating him as a child for how Tobias treated his Mother, hating him later for how Tobias treated him. Severus learned early on to not expect favours from his Father. Although Severus may not even be aware of it himself, he longed for a word of praise from Tobias. In November of 1978, the Dark Lord requested that Severus, a half blood, kill his Muggle Father. No doubt as killing his Muggle Father was one of the turning points in Tom Riddle’s life, Voldemort saw this as a test for the young Slytherin boy to perform before he could move further up into the ranks of the Death Eaters.• Family/childhood: The courtship of Eileen Prince & Tobias Snape is a cautionary tale for young witches everywhere. Eileen Prince fell in love with Tobias Snape the first time they met. Tobias, who was by no means particularly handsome, did have a certain charisma in his younger days. Tobias was unaware of Eileen’s magical powers, and knew only that she came from a ‘well-off’, at least in his view, family. He encouraged her rebellion, thinking that when her parents died, they would leave the money to her and they, but particularly he, would be better off.It was not until after Severus' birth that he became aware of her ‘abilities’,and having slowly began to see how likely it was that the Prince family would write Eileen out of the inheritance purely for spite. Tobias’ actions began to change towards Eileen, and what had begun as him seducing her swiftly was altered in his mind to her having seduced him. Magic was something he could not understand, and as a result of this, and his anger that she had lied to him, their relationship began to dissentigrate. By this point, with Severus two years of age Eileen was closed into a miserable relationship. She saw herself in a place she could not leave and she taught Severus as much magic as she could although it angered Tobias and he would often yell both at her and at Severus. Severus’ childhood was not happy, and he spent hours away from the small, cramped flat where he lived with his parents. It was at the park down the road that he met Lily Evans, a muggle who would become perhaps the closest to a friend he had during his childhood. His mother wanted him to be well read on his family history, and magical history and theories. Severus himself recognized that magic was likely his way away from his father and the unhappiness he felt at home. His mind sought reason and order and he was hungry to learn. Severus sought access to his mother’s collection of magical books, reading everything that he could, including several on the Dark Arts. At an early age he began to try to focus magic in such a way that he could protect from potential prosecutors without having a wand. When he realized that Lily had magical abilities, he used his knowledge to impress Lily. He knew a lot by the age of eleven, accounting for Sirius’ statement that he came to Hogwarts knowing more dark spells than many seventh years. Severus’ Hogwarts letter surprised no one but Tobias who determined Severus wouldn’t go. Eileen put her foot down in a way she had never done before. The fight that evening was fierce, but in the end Severus boarded the train. He had no money, nor would his Muggle Father’s name carry any respect, but he was determined to gain money and respect at Hogwarts. • Sexuality: Straight. Severus is not asexual, neither is he particularly disinclined towards romance. He is aware of his own desires, but they do not rule him. Typically he takes care of his own needs, and is not interested in someone else doing it for him. When Severus loves, he loves deeply and passionately, although he lacks ability to express love. Therefore, Severus is not interested in meaningless sexual encounters. He is not a virgin, having lost his virginity last New Year’s Eve, mostly to shut up a few particularly loud Death Eater colleagues. Were Voldemort to suggest it his duty to marry a witch and create an heir, he would do so, however as he is a mere half-blood, is this likely to be requested of him as full blood and pure blooded wizards are preferred in the new regime. Future sexual encounters would be unlikely to require commitment, and would be approached extremely matter of factly considering the possibility that sexual intercourse with the woman he has always loved the best he knew how is impossible. • Significant other: Rodolphus Lestrange approached Severus regarding an arranged marriage in early February 1980. Miss Agatha Chubb, a halfblood, was the daughter of a purist who was interested in his daughter being married well. Although Agatha was quite a few generations further from Muggles than Severus was, Severus' high ranking and Lestrange's praise of the young man's abilities, turned Charles Chubb's head. Severus accepted the arrangement more out of surprise than actual thought, but followed through with the responsibility. His relationship with Agatha is occasionally awkward, although not unfriendly. Agatha herself, shares very few of the political beliefs of her father, leaning towards a neutral society lady rather than an outright purist - something Severus is consistently thankful for. During their best days they get along well, but there is a constant strain on their relationship brought on by the lies he must tell her, both as a Death Eater, and as a spy for the Order. While their relationship could not be described as unhappy, it is certainly not one built on love, but rather the very early stages of what could might if they are lucky be nurtured into friendship. • Children: None. |
| education & history. |
| • School: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry • Years: 1971 – 1978 • House: Slytherin • Achievements: Duelling club • NEWTS: Charms - E Potions - O Defence Against the Dark Arts - O Arithmancy - A Herbology - O History of Magic - E Occupational • Occupation: Librarian, Lestrange Library in Hogsmeade. • Previous jobs, if any: Working in an Apprenticeship to Augustus James, Potioneer/Apothecary. Severus began this apprenticeship shortly after Hogwarts in the autumn of 1978 and continued until October 1979; Although he is currently working at the Lestrange Library, he has arranged to continue his studies in the evening to work towards his Potion Master title. Rather than the original November date when he would have completed his initial studies and tested to began the final six months of training, he will now take this in January, and depending upon whether he continues with another career, the final six months of training will be completed over nine months time. • School/work: When he arrived at Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat debated briefly between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. Severus’ ambition and strong desire for respect and influence quickly answered the Hat’s questions and he was sorted into Slytherin house where he immediately learned to treat his housemates with cautiousness. He was neither charming nor extroverted, but he was clever and he had a thirst for knowledge. He studied hard, spending days in the library, and trying to make certain he had all the answers to questions asked in class. Books didn’t lie to him, mistreat him, or keep secrets from him, unlike his experience with his parents and those students within his year. He continued a friendship with Lily even after she was sorted into Gryffindor. Perhaps it was this jealousy of her being in the same house as Potter and Black that meant that within the first year he’d already made enemies of Sirius Black and James Potter. Envy made his dislike more palpable, and by the second year, he was actively seeking curses and jinxes he could use to defend himself from their ridicule. He made friends within Slytherin house; doing everything he can to minimize the impact of his Muggle father’s name or his friendship with Lily, a Muggleborn. During his fifth year the strain between the increasingly fanatical murmurings of his pureblooded housemates and the friendship and attraction he had to Lily Evans increased ten times over. Severus didn’t want to give up either Lily or the possibility that he could make something of himself. While in Slytherin circles, he’d pass it off as merely a physical attraction that meant nothing, the truth was that he could share himself with Lily more than he could with anyone else and considered her his best friend. At the end of his fifth year, the events of Snape’s Worst Memory occurred. After that point his relationship with Lily grew more strained. While Severus held onto some hope that he could salvage it even several months into his sixth year, the fight between his desire for Lily and his desire to befriend the right people to get ahead stretched them further apart. In the end, several events occurred in December of 1976 that snapped the rope between the two. The Whomping Willow incident along with Lily’s willingness to give James Potter a second chance by accepting his invitation to the Yule Ball that year, turned Severus completely to his friends hoping that by doing so, he would be able to fill the gaping hole the lack of Lily created. Severus was furious with her for trusting his worst enemy, and he turned his back on her and their friendship. By the time he began to regret having shut her out so vehemently, the chasm between them was too difficult to cross. Severus threw himself further into the friendships he was making in his own house. Feeling that Slytherin students were the only students he could even consider trusting, he was soon pulled into the circle of future Death Eaters. Severus believed that he and his fellow Slytherins were going to change their world and even as late as the end of his seventh year, he couldn’t help hoping that Lily might be impressed by his determination to be somebody, whatever she might think of the friends she had made in this house. • Recent history: After Hogwarts, Severus actively continued alliances with those Slytherins in his year, as well as those who had attended Hogwarts in the years directly above him. Severus Snape took the mark at the end of July 1978 directly after receiving his NEWT marks. Severus’ first responsibilities in the Death Eaters were raids on three Ministry of Magic Aurors, of which, two were killed, the other tortured badly. Entering on outer circles of the Death Eaters, Severus made certain to take every opportunity to move up in the organization. It was through Voldemort, who saw Severus’ skills with potions and foresaw the need to have someone who could brew polyjuice, veritaserum, and other useful potions for the Death Eaters, that he obtained an apprenticeship with Augustus James, a fullblood potionere, considered one of the best potion makers of his generation. Severus began for Augustus in September of 1978, and has been working with him for the past few months learning potions more complicated than anything he had done at Hogwarts. Severus not only enjoys the potions, but is relaxed by their creation. At the end of November of 1978, Voldemort gave Severus the assignment of killing his Mudblood father. Severus accepted this assignment, waiting for the opportunity when his Mother would not be around. This came in December of 1978, just before Christmas. Severus, in the company of Mulciber – who had been assigned as his mentor – followed his father home from the local pub. His father never made it home, struck down by his only son in an alleyway just past midnight. Severus had passed his test, and was given further responsibilities within the Death Eaters. If pressed, Severus would have to admit to himself his belief that although the ideology of his Slytherin cohorts was so against Lily’s line of birth, that if she was with him, she would be protected. Even after his mother’s pure blood did not protect his Father; Severus doesn’t see the inherent contradictions in his logic. In his mind, his father deserved to die, and Lily does not; his father’s death was merely justice finally delivered. Only in the last few months as the realization Lily’s choice is not him has he begun to realize that he may not be able to protect her no matter how promoted within the organization he may be. Over the past few months Severus has begun to question some of the things that he sees his fellow Death Eaters doing and some of the commands that come down from the top. His ambition and his sense of justice are beginning to collide, and the fallout from this collision may be more difficult than Severus bargained for. U P D A T E S Severus participated in the attack on Hogsmeade, and came out of the incident realizing that he needed to improve his charms and dueling skills. Over the next week Severus was involved in furthering the Death Eaters’ cause by threatening Ouroboros on Diagon Alley, so that a sign noting that no Muggleborns would be served was placed in the window. It was during February that Severus had one of his first reasons to question the techniques and methods of the Death Eaters when Agnes O’Hare informed him of the deaths of two children in conjunction with the Hogsmeade attack. Severus ended the month with a dose of revenge, served chocolate style, to Marlene McKinnon, Agnes O’Hare, and Sirius Black. During March, Severus worked to continue to improve the physical around his mother, as well as the mental. He visited a number of libraries including the Lestrange’s library, seeking information that might help him improve Eileen’s moods and overall health. With the ‘death’ of O’Hare, and doubts about his mother’s health plaguing him, Severus realized that he must learn to better control his emotions. At the beginning of April, Severus assisted in the destruction of specific locations at Diagon Alley. Although he did not enjoy the revelry as some of his cohorts did, he did successfully complete his task and at the end of April returned to Diagon Alley with other Death Eaters to finish the job. May brought hard choices for Severus. Mr & Mrs Evans were selected, along with family members of Agnes O'Hare and Marlene McKinnon, to be the target of the Death Eaters. Although Severus was assigned to the McKinnon relatives, he had to choose whether to tell Lily and risk exposing his continued friendship with her, or to stay with the Death Eaters. In the end, he chose to stay silent, although the choices was a difficult one. The murder of the Cullens' Marlene McKinnon's relatives, weighed heavily on Severus' mind as well. Particularly when he discovered that Aquila had murdered a three-year-old child. The aftermath of these events was Severus seeking to put his world into better order, and a determination to further study into the mind magic of Occlumency and Legilimency, in order to keep his secrets - including his feelings for Lily - better hidden from others. As these things were sorted, Severus began specifically spending time with Astra Avery, hoping to distract himself from Lily Potter. Given his success with the Cullen murders, Severus was given the opportunity of working with Rodolphus Lestrange and Alecto Carrow to put into place explosives for the bombing of the Quidditch Matches that would take place later in the month. Notes to Astra led to an opportunity to defend Astra's honour against mudbloods and other filth, while he had his first successful attempt at Legilimency. Much to Severus' chagrin, Agnes O'Hare began to send his mother money shaping the beginnings of an unlikely friendship (and the promise to stop striking out comments to her), while Astra Avery began to visit Eileen Snape to read to her in the afternoons. Severus ended the month with further orders from the Dark Lord, discovering information about what the Ministry knows about the werewolf movements from Ted Tonks. Fear of infiltration into the Death Eater circles, brought with it a search of the Death Eater's minds from the Dark Lord in June. Although successful with basic Legilimency, Severus found himself unable to block the Dark Lord's sweep of his mind, uncovering his relationship with Agnes O'Hare, and the conversation he had with Peter Pettigrew. On the Dark Lord's orders, Severus kept Agnes out of the way while Aberforth Dumbledore was beaten and questioned by werewolves, and had his first sexual encounter with her, leading to more complicated feelings about her. Severus was involved with retribution, fighting and injuring - but not killing - Edgar Bones' brother. His work for the Death Eaters had not gone unnoticed and towards the end of June, Severus was moved higher in the Death Eater hierarchy - still in Tier 2, but directly next to Lucius Malfoy and ahead of most others his age. Sirius Black & James Potter continued to make Severus' life complicated, a life further complicated by his feelings for Agnes, his secret courting of Astra Avery, and his remaining adoration and love for Lily. July brought with it a success as Severus found a tutor for learning Occlumency in Bellatrix Lestrange. This turned out to be a very good thing as Severus began to be drawn further into friendships with Agnes O'Hare (saving her life from the werewolf Tabitha Pryce) and, as his friendship with Aquila fell apart over his infatuation with Astra, Aberforth Dumbledore. In Aberforth Severus found a kindred spirit, and the two began discussing magic, the current political situations, and as his friendships began to fall apart Severus took a chance and trusted Abe with his secrets. Aberforth in turn recognised that the young man's doubts could be beneficial to the Order, and began to suggest to Severus that he might be able to use his position within the Death Eaters organization to spy for the Order. It was not long after that Severus was given a number of Dumbledore's secrets as well, and as the two learned to trust each other, Severus found in Aberforth a man he could look up to like a Father. It was thus Abe, Agnes, and Lily that were the only people he invited to his Mother's funeral when Eileen's poor health finally gave out mid-August. This fledgling friendship was tested when Severus did not give the Order advance notice of the battle that would take place on Hogwarts grounds. Severus took place in this, was injured, but not as badly as Agnes, whom he unwittingly caused to sustain nearly fatal injuries. Agnes recognized Severus' voice as he cast a spell, thus breaking her trust in him. Severus visited Lily and the fact that he was a Death Eater was no longer a secret among the Order. He would spend the next two months trying to convince Agnes to give him a second chance, and it would not be an easy process. Aberforth was not pleased, but offered Severus forgiveness in spite of his mistakes, thus securing Severus' loyalty possibly for life. The beginning of November brought a couple of large changes for Severus. With Rodolphus Lestrange's imprisonment, Severus was handed the keys to the Lestrange Library in Hogsmeade. Working as caretaker/librarian, Severus dropped his apprenticeship (at least slowed his process severely) and began working there after Mr Lestrange's imprisonment. It was shortly after this time, that Agnes, whom had slowly been returning to a friendship status with Severus, was killed by Tabitha Pryce in the woods where they were staying. This was the final straw for Severus who told Aberforth that he wanted to commit himself completely to the Order and the fight against the Dark Lord. The War • How is your character involved in the war? Currently Severus is an initiated Death Eater in the second tier. He is currently learning more about potions both because he’s interested in the subject and at Voldemort’s request. Severus is currently trying to move up in Voldemort’s ranks to the first tier. He sees this as being the higher position of power, and a way to overcome his halfblood birth. Sev is willing to do most any assignment to move up in those ranks. Being a Slytherin he is consistently on the lookout for things that will increase his importance to Voldemort. In the next few months he will probably want to learn occlumency, in particular, mostly because he realizes other Death Eaters are skilled legilimens, and he wants to ensure that none of them steal any knowledge he has to take to the Dark Lord. I see him over the next year beginning to increasingly question the assignments even as he continues faithfully doing them. I’m wondering about him actually moving up into first tier after he goes to Dumbledore, and Dumbledore telling Severus that to be most useful to him, he has to get into a position where he can learn information directly from Voldemort. |
